BACKGROUND

With voice assistants today, music recommendations are hit-or-miss. Without the ability to sense context or mood to gain a sophisticated understanding of user needs, reactive voice assistants struggle to curate music experiences especially when trying to satisfy multiple people’s tastes in group settings. I teamed up with my cohorts in this independent study project to take on the challenge of designing a system that can play the right music without the efforts it currently takes to find it. Specifically, we want to explore: How might we design a proactive voice assistant that improves the enjoyability of music-listening experiences for multi-person households?

outcome

I developed a conversational design framework for a voice assistant that curates personalized music-listening experiences for people in their homes based on their activities, moods, and interpersonal dynamics. We presented our insights to Spotify's HCI Research team.
